According to Bloomberg, Apple has created folding screen prototypes for internal testing, implying that the company is working on a foldable iPhone. However, it does not appear that Apple has finished the concept – an iPhone Flip may be on the way, but it may be years away.
The iPhone Flip has long been rumoured, but we haven’t heard anything about it until now, which could be due to internal disputes. According to the article, Apple has been testing several foldable screen sizes, the majority of which are unknown, except one that unfolds to a size similar to the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The design resembles the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, a clamshell foldable phone that can expand to the size of a conventional smartphone. Then folded it into a compact shape that was twice as thick as before but had half the footprint.
However, the iPhone Flip or foldable, whichever it becomes, may never be released: according to the storey, testing may never culminate in a smartphone being sold on the market. Even if it is, it is unlikely that it will completely overhaul the primary iPhone line.
