According to a recent patent issued to Apple, future iPhones and iPads may contain their magnetic chargers. However, the phone will be bereft of the Lightning port, which is found on all iPhones and most iPads, for charging and data transmission.
THIS WEEK, the US Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple a patent for a new magnetic connector capable of transferring electricity to the iPhone. It comes after reports that Apple will eventually remove the Lightning port from its smartphones.
The patent shows a new connector that looks similar to the iPad’s Smart Connector and even the MagSafe on earlier MacBooks. According to the illustrations, this connector will replace the Lightning port as a new means to charge the iPhone.
