For the First Time, Facebook Signs An Agreement to Purchase Renewable Energy from India

Facebook just secured an agreement to purchase renewable energy from India as part of a local wind power project; nevertheless, this is one of the largest and first social media deals in a South Asian country.

According to an official report, a 32-megawatt wind power project in southern Karnataka, part of their more extensive wind and solar projects portfolio, would be built soon. In addition, Facebook and CleanMax, a Mumbai-based company, are partnering on the supply of renewable energy through India’s electrical infrastructure.

Facebook’s Head of Renewable Energy, Urvi Parekh, told Reuters that while the firm does not own any power plants, it sets indications such as long-term electricity agreements to purchase renewable energy.
